Tai Chi – Qigong

My interest in Qigong began in 1987 or 1988 when I took a Qigong class in San Francisco, where I was living at the time. Later I joined a Tai Chi class (Wu style) that was taught in Berkeley by Mary Christiansen. When I moved back to NY in 1997, I did, for a short period, find a Wu style Tai Chi class in Manhattan, but I was unable to keep up with it. Since early 2024 I am learning Yang style (Form 37) at the Dodge YMCA with Rebecca Wolf.

Here is a set of warmup exercises that combines Tai Chi moves and Qigong exercises that I learned from Rebecca.

Here are two YouTube videos demonstrating the Yang style Form 37:

  • Maggie Newman was one of Rebecca’s teachers, so, in some ways, my teacher’s teacher
  • Jenny Lu – in this version, the demonstration is the “Back View” which makes it easier to follow

I am also doing a 10 minute standing meditation most days and following suggestions made in this video

Tai Chi and Qigong offer me a way to “turn off” my mind and connect with life energies (Chi). I am a novice, but I do believe there is unlimited reward in practicing Qigong. I want to share what I’ve learned so I am interested in teaching. Here is a flyer for my first free class in Red Hook (Winter 2026).
